Alphabet art - Day 50

I found these adorable alphabet stickers on sale at Michaels one day. I think it was only a few dollars. I used white card stock and laid them out in a big square. I framed it and put it in their book shelf for a long time. Today I hung it where they can actually see it and use it. It is above their little learning table in their room.

Rocking chair - Day 49

One day as I was driving home I passed a thrift store on the way and saw the most adorable child rocking chair. It was in rough shape, but I saw potential. I took it home, cleaned, sanded and painted white. Ben used a little, but Tayrien LOVES it. Last night while we were reading scriptures he walked over and climbed up and started to rock. Here is him rocking this morning again in it.

Temple art for kids room - Day 48

The Church is building a new Temple which will become ours once finished. I decided to make some art for the boys room with the new Temple picture. I used an old piece of wood, a regular printed photo from the computer, some ribbon, vinyl, and some modge podge.

I Painted the piece of wood. When it was dried I sanded it to make it look distressed. I have been doing this a lot in my house intentionally because I know if I don't it will end up like that unintentionally anyways.

So I modge podged the printed photo on the wood. I left a big space on the right side to add embellishment.

Once dried I hot glued the ribbon where I wanted.

I hung the photo above Ben's pillow.
( Ben took this picture. I look horrid, I will judge for you)

I then used my cricut to cut the words, "I'm going there someday" because that is his favorite song and the first one he learned all by himself. I have done vinyl where Ben could get to it and the letters have mysteriously come off. SO I modge podged it to my wall. It just looks like a clear square of shiny stuff around the quote. He loves it and we had a talk about not peeling the letters off. We shall see if it lasts!

Vinegar - Day 47

Cleaning walls isn't something I think to do as often as I should. Did you know Vinegar {the wonder cleaner} can clean your walls? Here is the solution:

Clean the WallsTo remove dust and shine the walls, add one cup of vinegar to 1 gallon of water. Stir to combine and get scrubbing!

Here is a solution for cleaning your shower. I use s small spray bottle.

Prevent Soap Build Up in the ShowerKeep a spray bottle filled with vinegar in the bathroom and spray the shower walls after each shower. No need to rinse. Doing this will ensure you clean the shower much less often!

Birthday shirts - Day 46

I used my new love of freezer paper and fabric paint for making the boys birthday shirts. I found the white shirts on clearance at Target for $2.50 each. I already had freezer paper and fabric paint.

I wanted to incorperate the circus into it, so I put a mustache on Ben's and a number three on the back. For Tayrien's I made a bow tie on the front and a number 1 on the back. It was so easy and I LOVE the way they turned out.

Total : $5

Rainbow cake - Day 45

For the past month whenever you asked Ben what he wanted for his birthday he would reply: "Rainbow." I told him I would make him a rainbow cake for his birthday and I guess it stuck. So today I am going to tell you how I made a six layer rainbow!

I used  4 Pillsbury brand white cake mix and 4 white frosting tub. Mix two cake mixes first. I then measured the cake batter from two mixes into three equal parts. It comes to a little more than 2 1/2 cups each. Then I mixed food coloring into the three parts. Red, Orange, Yellow according to the food coloring box. I think it was 50 red, 50 yellow and then 16 red, 24 yellow for the orange.

Then I baked them according to the box. While those were baking, I mixed up the other two boxes of cake mix, divided that into three parts and added food coloring: green, blue and purple. When the first three were done I pulled them out and turned them over to cool. I did the same thin to the other three when they were finished.

Ok, so you have to wait till the layers are nice and cool. Then you flip them back over and take a long bread knife and cute the round tops off. Now it is assembly time. Make sure the first layer you place on your cake stand is Purple! We are working up the rainbow backwards. Slather on some frosting so it looks level. Add the blue layer and repeat. Make sure the edges are lining up so you don't end up with a leaning tower of rainbow. Repeat until all layers have been added. Then cover the entire surface with frosting. I had a long frosting knife for pastry making and it worked great. I with it had been about 3 in longer though. I put the cake in the fridge when I was done for the frosting so set. I had no problems and everything turned out great! I had a friend make one a few weeks prior and she said she used the off brand and she didn't like the way it turned out. I had nice big layers with mine and they were fluffy! I love making things no matter the medium!
