Start with cutting a square of fabric. Lay in over the slit and cut 2" past the slit, and 1" past the hem and the slit top. (I had to piece mine together since my piece wasn't long enough)
I chose to roll hem the bottom, but you can hem it regular by folding it twice under and sewing. Next you lay the fabric right side down. Line up the side of the slit with the side of the skirt hem that is already there.
Sew along the edge
This is what it looks like when you flip over the fabric.
Repeat on the other side. This is what it looks like when you have only sewed the sides.
Take the top of the slit and fold the fabric so there are equal parts on either side of the slit.
Pin in place.
Sew across the top.
Iron it!This is what it looks like finished!
When you walk you get a little peek a boo of fun fabric!

Thank you for giving a simple quick fix for a very common problem!
Thanks for posting, found this on pinterest. Fixed my daughters skirt and it looks great!
thank you so much i have been trying(without success) to do this very thing
What a great idea! I hate those long slits in skirts that make me feel uncomfortable. A cute fabric makes this into a great look.
Yea!!! Thank you for showing that MODEST can also be CUTECUTECUTE!!! This is really a neat tute!!!
Thank you so much for this. I've been wanting to do something like this forever on my denim skirt! I'd love to share a pic of my end result but there's no option here for pics.
Shoot, I like it so much I would purposefully make a slit just to have the kick pleat 😆
